Strong Storm To Bring 50 MPH Wind Gusts To CT: Timeline, New Details Released

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the entire state of Connecticut. Here's what you need to know.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory and hazardous weather outlook for the entire state on Wednesday.

During the afternoon and evening hours, wind gusts could reach 50 mph, the weather service said. Rain is also expected in the afternoon, but the big story will be the strong wind gusts that could cause isolated power outages.

"While today starts partly to mostly cloudy and otherwise tranquil… conditions deteriorate as the day progresses," wrote WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney. (Watch the WFSB 3 TV weather forecast here).

"By lunchtime, rain becomes likely from west to east. It ramps up in coverage and intensity in advance of a cold front, just in time for the afternoon commute. At the same time, a southerly wind intensifies pumping milder air into the state --- temps peak between 55 and 60! During the afternoon and early evening hours, gusts could come in between 40 and 50 mph. Because of this, isolated power outages are possible. Once the front clears the state (by 9p) the rain ends, clouds move out and the worst of the wind will be behind us."
