CT Weather: 50 MPH Wind Gusts, Isolated Thunderstorm Possible

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the entire state of Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook and wind advisory for the entire state Wednesday.

Winds may gust up to 50 mph and there is also a low chance of a thunderstorm. Significant rain is not expected as the state remains in a drought.

After Wednesday, it appears there are no more rain chances in the forecast through Columbus Day. Connecticut is looking at a significant warming trend this weekend, with temperatures rising into the upper 70s for daytime highs.

Southern Connecticut

A wind advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 2 a.m. Thursday for southern Connecticut. West winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," the weather service cautioned. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."


Northern Connecticut

A wind advisory is in effect for northern Connecticut from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday. West winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," the weather service said. "Some downed trees and scattered power outages will be possible, especially given fully leafed trees."

The weather service said winds will increase throughout the day, especially in the afternoon and evening hours. The wind gusts will decrease in the overnight hours. Areas along the immediate coasts may get a reprieve from the strongest wind gusts.

There is also a chance for scattered rain showers and a thunderstorm this afternoon. "The higher threat for storms looks to be across CT and the Lower Hudson Valley at the moment," the weather service said.
