CONNECTICUT — A wind chill warning has been issued for Hartford, Tolland, Windham, and Litchfield counties as it may feel as cold as 30 degrees below zero on Friday and Saturday morning.

A wind chill advisory has been issued for all of southern Connecticut, as wind chills will make it feel as cold as 25 below zero. The National Weather Service cautioned that frostbite on exposed skin could occur within 30 minutes.

The silver lining is that this extreme cold will be gone by Sunday as temperatures will hit 40 degrees, and we're in the mid 40s to start next week and possibly 50 degrees by Wednesday. Once again, there is no hint of snow in the 7-day weather forecast.

WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney said temperatures may approach 40 degrees on Thursday and there will be "plenty of sunshine."

"Tonight, the Arctic cold front moves through the region, with it some clouds and perhaps a snow shower or brief squall (overall, the atmosphere is fairly moisture-starved). Tomorrow, high temperatures will be achieved just after midnight, then drop all day long. For the morning commute tomorrow, expect temperatures in the 20s going into the teens; by the evening commute, they’ll be in the single digits with a wind chill below zero!" the WFSB 3 TV weather team wrote.

"Our *ALERT* remains in place for not only dangerously cold air, but the wind that will make conditions worse. Tomorrow night into Saturday morning, the actual air temp likely goes below zero statewide. For reference, the last time we had a sub-zero temp was on January 31st, 2022, when the low was -2 at Bradley Airport (where the official records are maintained). Factoring in the wind, it could feel like -10 to -30 late Friday into early Saturday – dangerous, for sure.

"For the 4th of February (Saturday), record lows could be challenged. For the Hartford Area, the record low is -8 from 1965. For Bridgeport, the record low is 5 from 1996," the WFSB 3 TV weather team said. (Watch the entire WFSB 3 TV weather team's forecast here).
