Snow Accumulation Estimates Released For Next Storm In CT

A coastal storm is also emerging in the forecast, which could bring even more snow to Connecticut.

The long holiday weekend is expected to bring snow to Connecticut, and forecasters are closely monitoring a coastal storm’s potential impact on the state.

Snow accumulation estimates for Saturday

WFSB 3 TV chief meteorologist Mark Dixon said Thursday afternoon on Facebook that "We've got our First Alert Weather Day for tomorrow (Friday) due to the dangerous wind chill early in the day. Thereafter, we have newly declared First Alert Weather Days... Saturday for accumulating snow, then next week for *another* shot of Arctic cold & wind. We're breaking it all down this evening." He is predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow on Saturday.

WTNH is reporting light snow on Saturday with some mixing in southeastern Connecticut. "A coating to 3″ is the full range of amounts with lots of 1″ to 2″ totals expected," News 8 forecasts.

The National Weather Service is predicting around up to two inches of snow on Saturday.

Coastal storm emerges, but impacts are unknown

Another round of snow is possible later in the weekend, starting on Sunday, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service’s Boston office indicates it is watching the track of a coastal storm for Sunday into Sunday night, which “remains uncertain.”

“A track closer to the coast would bring accumulating snow to much of (Southern New England)...while a further offshore track would result in little if any snow,” the National Weather Service reported Thursday morning.

It reports it will know more and have a definitive forecast by Friday morning.

For Sunday’s weather forecast, WTNH reports it is closely watching a low pressure system for Sunday into early Monday, “with some snow possible.”

According to WFSB, how the coastal storm tracks on Sunday “will dictate if we perhaps receive snow or maybe nothing at all.”

“As of now the American model is indicating some sort of impact; meanwhile, the European model is showing a complete miss,” WFSB reports.
