From Snow To Thunderstorms, 40 MPH Wind Gusts, Heavy Rain Across CT: New Details

A strong storm is expected to produce significant impacts for Connecticut. Here are the new details and updated timeline.

CONNECTICUT — Our odd winter continues. Another strong storm will impact Connecticut's weather Thursday and Friday, and this time we will get the entire kitchen sink thrown at us.

Phase 1, which is happening this morning, includes some light snow across Connecticut and in some northern areas it's actually sticking a bit to the road. The snow that is falling now isn't forecast to accumulate much, and not everyone will see snowflakes this morning.

Phase 2 begins this afternoon and evening as rain takes over, it may be heavy at times, and there may be thunderstorms late tonight and Friday morning and wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph in some southern parts of the state. An inch of rain or more is forecast before the precipitation tapers off midday Friday.

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said we can expect a mostly cloudy start to Thursday with "some spotty areas of light rain or snow, especially through the morning hours (well in advance of the ‘main’ event)."

"However, anything the falls should not be impactful. After starting out in the 30s, temperatures trend milder – into the 40s, south to north – from the afternoon into the evening hours in the wake of a warm front," wrote Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney.

"Rain overspreads the state toward and after sunset. Highs will likely be achieved just before midnight tonight. Temps continue to climb through the overnight hours: from the 40s into the 50s as rain continues, heavy at times. While not a major concern, wind gusts could reach 20-30 mph (perhaps a bit stronger over southeastern CT, 30-40 mph there)... especially along a cold front as it pushes through the state. This is also when rumbles of thunder will be possible (early tomorrow morning). The wet and windy weather will certainly have an impact on tomorrow morning’s commute. The rain ends by midday tomorrow, and we could see some partial clearing before sunset. Temps drop into the 40s by the evening commute." (You can watch the full WFSB 3 TV weather forecast here).
