'Deteriorate:' Over 2,700 New Coronavirus Cases In CT
Connecticut's coronavirus situation continues to get worse as dozens of hospital beds are filled everyday by coronavirus patients.
CONNECTICUT — The state Department of Public Health announced it recorded a jaw-dropping 2,746 positive cases of the coronavirus on Thursday. That brings the state total to 88,645 cases, as health officials predict the worst is yet to come.
Gov. Ned Lamont and several other nearby governors are attending a summit with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to consider new coronavirus-related restrictions amid a growing number of cases and hospitalizations.
The governors of New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania are expected to attend. Changes could come as soon as Monday.

"I believe the situation will continue to deteriorate over the coming weeks," Cuomo said.
New York State's overall coronavirus situation remains better than Connecticut with a 2.6 percent positive test rate, however, there are some hotspots including areas of the Queens borough in New York City.
Connecticut on the other hand is seeing widespread coronavirus activity with more than 2,700 cases recorded Friday and coronavirus-related hospitalizations doubling in two weeks.

The one-day positivity rate in Connecticut jumped to 6.37 percent, while another 42 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals. During a news conference Thursday, Lamont said that the number of hospital beds the virus fills is the bellwether for additional closures and regulations. There are currently 659 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus in Connecticut.
Lamont, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other nearby governors are meeting for a summit this weekend to discuss the deteriorating coronavirus situation and possibly new restrictions.
Another 11 residents have died from COVID-19-associated ailments, bringing the death toll in the state to 4,737. Over 43,000 tests were performed during the last 24-hour recording period.
