NEW FAIRFIELD, CT — New Fairfield officers and troopers from the New Fairfield Resident Trooper’s Office responded to a business parking lot on Route 39, for a report of a dog locked inside a parked car Monday afternoon, state police said.

The temperature at the time was 82 degrees, state police said. State police said the Yorkie dog was in distress, locked inside a dark-colored car, with its windows rolled up.

"It is unknown how long the dog was left unattended inside of the car," state police said. "Officers broke a window and moved the dog to an air-conditioned police cruiser, where the dog’s condition improved. The New Fairfield Animal Control Officer quickly responded to the scene and took custody of the dog. The investigation by the New Fairfield Animal Control Office remains ongoing."
