On Monday, Bob Stefanowski, GOP gubernatorial candidate, released the following statement calling on Gov. Ned Lamont to lift the mask mandate in Connecticut schools in advance of the opening of the legislative session on February 9th:

“The Governor has maintained full executive authority over the state for nearly two-years and it’s time to end the one-size-fits-all approach for masks in our schools,” said Stefanowski in a news release. “I am calling on the Governor to immediately remove the mandate on masks for Connecticut’s schools.”

“Two years ago, Amy and I along with a dedicated group of volunteers, were proud to lead the effort to provide 1.5 million masks to nursing home workers and first responders throughout the state,” said Stefanowski. “But today, two years into the pandemic, it’s time to move our state forward. Most local mandates in Connecticut towns have been lifted for months. Now is the time to do the same in our schools by empowering parents to make this decision for their own children.”

Lamont's emergency powers are scheduled to end Feb. 15, and the Governor has recently indicated that the end may be coming soon for the school mask mandate, but he hasn't released a date.

****Breaking news update: At 4:15 p.m. Lamont is holding a news conference on mask requirements. No other details were released. Patch will have live coverage of Lamont's news conference.

Troopers perform Lifesaving measures on I-91 during rainstorm

At 6:34 a.m. Feb. 4, State Police Troop H received a 911 call from a passenger in a limousine vehicle which had been traveling in the HOV lane on I-91 Northbound at Exit 35 in Windsor, when the driver of the vehicle reportedly had a medical event.

The passenger stated that the driver was not conscious and unresponsive. Troopers quickly determined the driver had no pulse and was not breathing, State Police said.

Troopers immediately initiated CPR, using a bag valve mask to assist with breathing. Once Windsor EMS arrived, Troopers continued to assist EMS with CPR and rescue breathing. A pulse was detected in the ambulance, but the driver was still not breathing on his own, State Police said.

Windsor EMS advised Troopers that both medics needed to remain with the patient and administer care. EMS then requested that a Trooper drive the ambulance to Hartford Hospital. Troopers readily agreed and operated the ambulance so that EMS personnel could remain with the patient and continue to provide acute medical care, State Police said.

The driver of the vehicle was admitted to Hartford Hospital, where he remains under the care of medical staff. Commanding Officers of the Troopers are recommending them for the agency’s Lifesaving Medal.
