Franklin Double Fatal Crash Adds To Holiday Weekend Death Toll

Two from Windham/Willimantic dead in Monday night, head-on collision on Route 32, marking 12 deaths on state roads over weekend.

FRANKLIN, CT — State police Tuesday afternoon added two more people to a brutal death toll on Connecticut roadways over the holiday weekend, this one happening Monday night in Franklin.

Killed in the accident, police said, was 24-year-old Jullian Raul Parrilla of Windham and 25-year-old Andre Shamar Wade of Willimantic.

Parrilla was driving a 2010 Honda Accord that police said crossed the center line of Route 32, colliding with a 2017 Lexus being driven by a female driver from Mount Sinai, N.Y.

Wade was a passenger in Parrilla's vehicle, as was another male 21-year-old male from Willimantic.

The other passenger was taken to Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Willimantic with suspected minor injuries.

Parrilla was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, where he was later pronounced dead, while Wade was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one in the Honda was wearing a seat belt, police said, while the female driver of the Lexus, who was flown to Hartford Hospital via Life Star helicopter with suspected "serious" injuries, did have a seat belt on.

News of the Franklin double-fatal adds to Connecticut's roadway death toll from what state police said was a concerning, three-day holiday weekend.

The Memorial Day weekend death toll now stands at 12, with four killed in a Thompson crash, four killed in a Guilford crash, the two dead in Franklin, with single fatalities reported in accidents in Madison and Hampton.

The Franklin crash remains under investigation, with any witnesses asked to contact state police at Troop K in Colchester at (860) 465-5400.
