Here's How CT Is Working To Process Unemployment Claims Faster

More than 400,000 Connecticut residents have filed for unemployment benefits since the coronavirus outbreak began in mid-March.

CONNECTICUT — More than 400,000 Connecticut residents have filed for unemployment benefits since the coronavirus outbreak began in mid-March. At one point the delay in processing claims reached six weeks but that is currently down to three weeks and state officials hope that number will shrink even further.

The Connecticut Department of Labor said it is hiring employees in Wethersfield and Middletown to help process unemployment insurance claims. To apply for Employment Security Intermittent Interviewer openings click here. The jobs pay in excess of $20 an hour, according to the posting. You have until April 29 to apply.

In other claims news, the department of labor said, "To speed up the processing of unemployment insurance claim applications, some are being sent through CTDOL’s automated system and placed into temporary shutdown status. The agency is now beginning to convert those claims to regular standard claims. If your claim was initially placed in the temporary shutdown category, you will receive get an email from CTDOL that instructs you on how to begin filing a weekly claim. Please check your email (including spam or junk folders)."
