VERNON, CT — The latest trip to a Hidden Gem in Connectict takes us to a corner of the Rockville section of Vernon. There, just down the hill from the Tolland County Courthouse, stands Craig's Kitchen, a restaurant that features good old down-home soul food.

Owner Craig Wright came to north-Central Connecticut by way of Detroit and the Red Wings banner on display in the restaurant is a testament to that. The recipes, Wright said, were developed from him watching his mom cook at home as a youngster.

He opened Craig's Kichen in 2017.

The banner hanging from the restaurant marquis promotes the authentic mac and cheese and Wright said his personal favorite way to serve it is with fried chicken and either collard greens or candied yams.
