Man Dies After Car Plunges Into Housatonic River: Police

A man is dead after a car plunged into the Housatonic River in Kent on Friday afternoon.

KENT, CT — A New York man is dead after a car plunged into the Housatonic River in Kent on Friday afternoon, according to a state police report. Police responded at 2:49 p.m. to a report of a motor vehicle in the Housatonic River off of Schaghticoke Road.

A 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with New York license plates was traveling north of Schaghticoke Road in Kent when it veered off the right side of the road. The car rolled off the edge of the road down a steep embankment and into the river nose-first, according to police.

The driver, Alexis Caron, 24, of Dover Plains, NY, was able to free herself from the car. The front passenger, later identified as Dillon Miller, of Dover Plains, NY, remained inside fully submerged.

Dive teams responded and removed Miller from the car. He was transported by Kent EMS to Sharon Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 4:31 p.m.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The Pontiac was towed from the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
