Man Dies After Kayak Overturns, State Officials Say
The accident was reported on Saturday.
NORTH CANAAN, CT — A man died after his kayak overturned on Saturday, state officials said.
James Fowler, a state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection spokesperson, said that DEEP Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) responded with emergency responders from North Canaan and Connecticut State Police Troop B to a private pond for a report of a kayak that had overturned with one person in the water.
The victim was recovered, and life-saving measures were attempted.

LIFE STAR landed and assisted in medical treatment. The victim was ultimately pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Wilian Alexander Campos Vazquez, 25, from the Republic of Guatemala.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) was notified and is assisting in the investigation.

The preliminary investigation found that the victim was out paddling a kayak on the small farm pond by himself when his vessel capsized.
DEEP Environmental Conservation Police are the lead investigating agency, and the investigation remains ongoing.
