Monroe Man Arrested on Gun Charges

He believed he was firing at home invaders.

MONROE, CT -- Police arrested a man after he fired upon whom he believed were intruders.

Monroe police answered a call from a Shelton Road resident at approximately 8:25 p.m., on Thursday, July 12, reporting that his neighbor had banged on his door, distraught that at least two persons allegedly forced their way into his home when he opened the back door.

The man, Ismail Mamudovski, 77, told police that he was assaulted by the intruders who demanded money. While the intruders began to search the home, Mamudovski said he was able to run from the scene to his neighbor's house, and that neighbor contacted police.

Police say that Mamudovski sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was examined on the scene by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Services. He declined further treatment or transport to a hospital.

Later that evening, at 12:52 a.m. on July 13, the Monroe Police received a report that Mamudovski had just shot through the window at what he perceived as the intruders returning. When officers responded to the scene they verified a shot had been fired from inside the house towards the yard. There was no evidence that anyone had been struck by the bullet, the police report said.

Police arrested Mamudovski because there was a protective order in place due to an unrelated incident prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. He was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and violation of a protective order.

Mamudovski was detained at Monroe Police Headquarters in lieu of $100,000 bond for arraignment in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 13.

Monroe detectives are continuing to investigate the original home invasion and the circumstances involved in the shooting incident.

Police are saying that the home invasion does not appear to be a random act of violence.
