Fire Destroys Several Seymour Businesses; 2 Firefighters Injured
Six area fire departments came to assist with a large fire that damaged multiple Seymour businesses Wednesday afternoon.
SEYMOUR, CT — Several businesses were destroyed and two firefighters were injured in a multi-alarm structure fire Wednesday afternoon on Bank Street in Seymour, according to FOX 61. A huge cloud of smoke could be seen from a nearby highway, and the fire closed Main Street between Derby Street, Route 67, Broad Street, and Route 313.
Firefighters arrived and found the blaze in an antique shop. Six area fire departments arrived to provide assistance, according to FOX 61.
Thirteen people were displaced due to the blaze, though officials believed they would be able to return Wednesday night, according to NBC CT. Electricity was knocked out for 1,400 customers but was restored quickly for all but about 150.

More than 100 firefighters worked to extinguish the three-alarm blaze which spread quickly due to the building's old age. One firefighter suffered an injury due to a fall and another had heat exhaustion, NBC CT reported.
A total of five business owners were displaced due to the fire, including a massage parlor, two antique shops, and a barber shop.

The fire is being investigated by Seymour police, the fire marshal, and the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Unit.
