Downtown Fairfield Restaurant Closes

The restaurant's building was recently sold and the family business has closed its doors after 28 years.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A longtime family business has closed its doors in downtown Fairfield.

Avellino’s Italian Restaurant is no longer open, its owners announced Wednesday on Facebook.

“We came here with a dream and a goal to be a family run and operated restaurant for families that looked to have fresh, cooked to order meals,” the Facebook post said. “There have been plenty of speed bumps and difficulties throughout the many years; but there were so many more great moments.”

The business’s building at 1813 Post Road was recently sold, according to the post. Operated by the Del Franco family, Avellino’s served up classic Italian fare for baptisms, rehearsal dinners, funerals, and everything in between.

“This is a bittersweet moment for the Avellino’s team and Del Franco family,” the post said. “We have spent the last 28 years being proud members of the Fairfield community and have been so lucky to have been a part of it for so long.”

However, this may not be the last Fairfield sees of the team behind Avellino’s, according to the post.

“We don’t know what the future holds, but we are excited for the adventures to come,” the post said. “This is not a goodbye, but a see you later!”
