CONNECTICUT — The People's United Bank logo will be around a little while longer as the merger with M&T Bank continues to take shape.

An M&T spokesman Wednesday said People's United signage is expected to remain "at most locations" until the system conversion is complete, which is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2022.

At that time, signage and letterheads will change to M&T, he said.

Meanwhile. M&T officials said:

  • People's United customers should continue to use People's United branches, websites, mobile apps, financial advisers, and "relationship managers" until the systems conversion is complete.
  • Both M&T and People's United customers can now withdraw cash from any of the more than 2,200 M&T and People's United ATMs from Maine to Virginia without the usual out-of-network fees.

The $8.3 billion acquisition of People's United by M&T Bank Corporation, the parent company of M&T Bank, was completed on April 1.

The combined company now employs more than 22,000 people and has a network of more than 1,000 branches and 2,200 ATMs that span 12 states from Maine to Virginia and Washington, D.C.

People's United common stock stopped trading on the NASDAQ market after the closing.

The People's United headquarters in Bridgeport are now M&T's New England regional headquarters. A timetable for any job potential constriction — the layoffs have been projected at 747 in Connecticut — has not been announced.
