Pet Supply Chain Pet Valu Closing All U.S. Stores

CONNECTICUT — Pet supply chain Pet Valu announced Wednesday afternoon that all its domestic stores will close.

"It's with heavy hearts that we must close all Pet Valu US stores," the one-sentence announcement said on social media. No reason was given.

A liquidation sale with discounts up to 20 percent will begin Thursday at every store, the announcement said.

A staff member at the Vernon store confirmed the closing and said preparations are being made for the liquidation sale.

Pet Valu specializes in pet supplies and nutrition consultations. Stores are equipped with dog washes.

The chain's Connecticut locations include:

• Newington
• Simsbury
• West Hartford
• Southington
• Bristol
• Cromwell
• Milford
• Southbury
• Winsted
• Groton

Pet Valu officials directed customers to its website for information on liquidation sales, member information and gift cards.

Pet Valu officials are encouraging all customers to use outstanding gift cards by Dec. 13.
Gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash, they added. All stores will close earlier than the end of the year if inventories sell out quickly, a staffer said.

Pet Valu has been around for about four decades, according to its website. In 2016, the chain merged with Pet Supermarket to become one of the largest retail operations in North America with nearly 1,200 stores.
