Local Man Killed In Hebron Accident, ID Released By Police

The victim was the son of a retired West Hartford deputy fire chief, officials said.

HEBRON, CT — A local man was fatally injured Monday in an accident involving a ratchet strap, state police said.

Troopers responded to a call for medical assistance on Burnt Hill Road in Hebron. According to police, the ratchet strap snapped and struck the 25-year-old victim in the head. The device is designed to secure cargo on motor vehicles.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive, state police said.

On Tuesday, police identified the victim as Shane Albert of Amston.

He was the son of retired West Hartford Deputy Fire Chief Keith Albert, according to the West Hartford Fire Fighters Local 1241, which posted the following about the tragedy on its Facebook page:

Shane grew up around the firehouse, and his kindness, warmth, and passion touched many lives both inside and outside our walls.
