CONNECTICUT — If you have outdoor plans today as the 4th of July holiday weekend continues in Connecticut here is what you need to know about potentially strong to severe thunderstorms. Fox 61 TV Chief Meteorologist Rachel Frank said Saturday morning that the biggest area of concern appears to be from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. today.

For those areas that do see storms, we can expect gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain. There may be some isolated storms prior to 4 p.m. but they will become more widespread after 4 p.m., Frank said on social media. It will also be very hot and humid today and it may feel like 95 degrees in the afternoon.

Northern Connecticut: Special Weather Statement and a Hazardous Weather Outlook have been issued for Saturday. A cold front will move into southern New England this afternoon bringing a line of strong to severe storms with the potential for frequent lightning, localized heavy downpours, flooding, and damaging wind gusts. Due to the nature of summertime convection not everyone will see all hazards but those that are impacted by the strongest storms could see significant impacts.

Southern Connecticut: Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening may produce strong to damaging wind gusts. Localized flash flooding is also possible with this activity, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook.
