NEW CANAAN, CT — Gillian Flynn, author of the popular suspense novel "Gone Girl," reportedly is "sickened" that her book has been mentioned as a possible theory in the disappearance of New Canaan mother-of-five Jennifer Dulos, writes WTNH-TV.

In a statement obtained by the television station Friday, Flynn says that she has been following the case, and that she is "deeply sorry for Jennifer and her loved ones."

Jennifer Dulos has been missing since May 24, and a theory that Norm Pattis, attorney for her estranged husband Fotis Dulos, has put forward is that she may have faked her disappearance like the subject of Flynn's novel. A theory that Jennifer Dulos' family and friends have denied.

Fotis Dulos, and his ex-friend Michelle Troconis, have been charged with evidence tampering and hindering a prosecution in connection with the disappearance, because the two have been accused by police of discarding bloody clothing and other items.

Some of those things have tested positive for Jennifer Dulos' blood, and Fotis Dulos' DNA was found mixed with Jennifer Dulos' blood in her New Canaan home, according to prosecutors. Authorities also said that Jennifer Dulos appears to have been the victim of a violent attack in her home.

Both Fotis Dulos and Troconis have pleaded not guilty in the case.

"I've seen in recent coverage that Jennifer's husband and his defense attorney have put forward a so-called 'Gone Girl theory' to explain Jennifer's disappearance. It absolutely sickens me that a work of fiction written by me would be used by Fotis Dulos's lawyer as a defense, and as a hypothetical, sensationalized motive behind Jennifer's very real and very tragic disappearance," Flynn states, quoting the story by WTNH-TV.

The search for Jennifer Dulos continues, and police urge anyone with any information on her disappearance to call the New Canaan police tip line at 203-594-3544, or e-mail tips and information to FindJenniferDulos@newcanaanct.gov or anonymously submit information at www.FindJenniferDulos.com.
