BRISTOL, CT — A search is underway for a missing 71-year-old man who was last seen Monday morning.

Police Lt. Patrick Krajewski said a silver alert has been issued for missing city resident Robert Harper.

According to police, Harper left his home on O'Sullivan Drive this morning between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m.

Harper is believed to be on foot, and police said in a 2 p.m. announcement that he has “possibly been exposed to today’s heat over a long period of time.”

As of 6 p.m. Monday, Harper had still not been located. Police received a report that he had been spotted around 4 p.m. in the area of Farmington Avenue between Maple Street and Oakland Streets. Officers searched the area without success, according to Krajewski.

Harper was discovered to be missing when his wife returned home, police said.

“This is out of the ordinary for Robert, as he does not usually leave home and does not have friends or family in the neighborhood,” police said.

The missing man’s wife believes he is wearing blue pants and a brown and blue checkered shirt.

Due to the heat and the amount of time he has been missing, police have been conducting a neighborhood canvas. They are also searching the area with a bloodhound.
