Snow And Record Cold? Welcome To May Connecticut
How can we be talking about the chance of snow and record cold in May?
CONNECTICUT — The upcoming weather forecast for Connecticut is downright absurd. We're talking about the potential for accumulating snow in parts of Connecticut, temps below freezing, the chance of breaking record low temperatures, and we're a week into May.
Sadly, all-of-the above is in Connecticut's short-term weather forecast. The entire state is about to embark on a major temperature decline beginning today and accelerating on Friday and Saturday.
Record cold temps are possible on Saturday, and yes the extreme sections of northern Connecticut are likely to see snowflakes and even possibly some minor snow accumulation on grassy areas, according to local meteorologists.

According to the National Weather Service Boston Office "another storm brings more rain Friday night which may change to snow especially over the higher elevations. Blustery and near record cold follow Saturday with scattered rain and higher elevation snow showers."
For southern Connecticut we're not talking about snowflakes, but we're talking about a cold raw rain and temps could approach the freezing mark late Saturday.

NBC CT Chief Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said on social media "there's a small window for some accumulating snow Friday night in the Northwest Hills. Some of our computer models manage to get it done. Stay tuned." He added that the latest snow was ever recorded in Connecticut was on May 27 and that happened back in 1961 in Norfolk.
Fox 61 Chief Meteorologist Rachel Frank said "Also watching Friday night for a flip to wet snow or a mix for the higher elevations."
WTNH-News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons said "it all changes on Friday with a cold rain moving in late Friday and Friday night. Some places in Connecticut could get some wet snow at times Friday night early Saturday morning. Flurries or a few sprinkles on Saturday with high temperatures across the state only in the 40s."
