Southington YMCA To Honor Community Leaders At 97th Annual Meeting

Tickets are on sale for the event, with the RSVP deadline coming late next week.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Community YMCA will hold its 97th annual meeting and awards dinner to honor individuals/organizations for contributions to the community.

The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St., Plantsville, at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now, with folks asked to RSVP for the event by Friday, Feb. 13.

The event will recognize the YMCA Person of the Year along with recipients of the Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility, and Youth Leadership awards.

Tickets cost $50 per person.

Mark Pooler, chief executive officer of the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs, said the organization selected a range of honorees whose work has had a measurable impact on the town.

“As always, we have another great group of award winners this year,” Pooler said. “Their impact on Southington has been outstanding, and all are worthy of recognition. Southington is blessed to have so many valuable leaders and businesses that give back for the betterment of the community.”

Terry Gomez Lombardi was named YMCA Person of the Year.

The award is presented to a member of the Southington community who, through their actions, contributes to making the town a better place to live.

The Youth Development Award will be presented to the Southington High School Blue Knights Marching Band and Color Guard.

The award recognizes individuals or groups that nurture the potential of youth and teenagers.

Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging will receive the Healthy Living Award, which honors efforts to improve the health and well-being of Southington residents or employees.

The Social Responsibility Award will be presented to the Arc of Southington for motivating people to support their neighbors and the broader community.

Emily Bafuma and Ava LeBlanc were selected as recipients of the Youth Leadership Award, which recognizes local high school-aged students who demonstrate leadership and make positive contributions to the community.
