Not 1 But 2 Tornadoes Touch Down In Connecticut: Here's Where

The National Weather Service confirms that two tornadoes appeared in Connecticut. Here are details, updates on both.

LITCHFIELD COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service confirms that two tornadoes did in fact touch down on Sunday afternoon in Litchfield County.

The first tornado occurred in Sharon at 5:36 p.m.; it produced top wind speeds of 80 mph and lasted for a quarter of a mile. No one was injured during this tornado.

"The National Weather Service storm survey team confirms an EF0 tornado in Sharon, CT. The tornado struck a nursery along the New York/Connecticut border. Large trees were uprooted. The metal infrastructure of greenhouses was destroyed. Eyewitnesses reported garden supplies rotating in the air above the nursery. Down the road from the nursery, additional uprooted trees were observed."

The second tornado occurred in Falls Village and was reported at 6:05 p.m.; it produced wind gusts of 90 mph and lasted for 1.7 miles. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

"The National Weather Service storm survey team confirms an EF1 tornado in Falls Village, CT. The survey team observed many snapped and uprooted trees along Lime Rock Station Road near River Road. Additional downed trees were noted along the path of the tornado."

NBC Connecticut meteorologist Kaitlyn McGrath uploaded a video that shows the now-confirmed tornado. (You can watch the video here.) WFSB 3 TV reporter Patricia Del Rio shared photos that show the damage caused by the tornado.

"A possible tornado may have blown through here," Del Rio tweeted. "On the left, the greenhouses at #Paley’s Farm Stand [were] ripped down to the metal framing and giant trees completely uprooted." (Click here to view her photos.)

The Republican-American shared video of the tornado and said three "Paley’s Farm Market greenhouses were heavily damaged, with plastic roofs blown off." Two trees were knocked over by the storm, the Rep-Am reports.
