CT Weather: 60 MPH Wind Gusts Saturday, Flash Flooding Concerns

The National Weather Service has issued weather watches in advance of the stormy weather. Here is when to expect the worst from this storm.

Rain, rain go away could be our theme from now until next Wednesday. Outside of Sunday, which will be sunny with temps in the mid 50s, the forecast calls for rain today, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Connecticut may see severe thunderstorms tonight along with heavy rain. There is even a low risk for another tornado, according to NBC CT Chief Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan, while adding the biggest risk for severe weather is between 8 p.m. and midnight tonight.

The largest concern will be the strong wind gusts that arrive on Saturday, which could cause power outages.

"Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and powerlines. Scattered power outages are possible," the NWS says.

As for the stormy weather, "showers and a few thunderstorms can be expected today ahead of the main front. South flow will keep temperatures about 5 to 10 degrees above average. The front will produce locally heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms tonight as it tracks slowly through the region. As the front exits Saturday, west winds will significantly increase, with gusts in excess of 50 mph possible. Temperatures will remain steady or gradually fall during the day as colder air filters in." (To sign up for free, local breaking news alerts from more than 100 Connecticut communities, click here.)

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "Heavy rain, thunderstorms and some flash flooding overnight tonight. The heavy rain will end early Saturday morning. A brief shower possible until noon. Sunshine Saturday afternoon and very windy. Sunny and 50s on Sunday!"
