Trapped Motorist Extricated From Vehicle After Crash In Preston: FD

PRESTON, CT — Emergency personnel extricated a person trapped in a vehicle which landed on its side following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning.

The second vehicle involved in the accident caught fire, according to fire officials.

Six patients were transported to the hospital for medical attention, officials said. Their conditions were not immediately available as of Monday evening.

Fire officials said the accident happened Monday just after 10 a.m. in front of the Citgo Gas Station at 37 Route 2.

Emergency responders extricated the driver who was trapped in the vehicle on its side, while also stretching a line to extinguish the fire in the other vehicle, fire officials said.

Officials said the trapped driver was extricated within 12 minutes.

“Thankfully a family of 5 escaped the mini-van before the flames reached the passenger compartment,” Preston fire officials said, in a post on Facebook.

An off-duty captain with the Preston Fire Department used a fire extinguisher to hold the vehicle fire in check before units arrived, according to fire officials.
