Unlicensed Teen Steals Vehicle, Crashes Into Pole In Plainfield: PD

The accident caused Black Hill Road to be closed for hours, according to police.

PLAINFIELD, CT — A 16-year-old is accused of stealing a vehicle and then crashing it into a utility pole on Black Hill Road Thursday, according to police.

Police responded to the crash scene around 10:17 a.m. and learned the driver had fled the scene.

Due to the extent of the damage to the utility pole, Black Hill Road had to be closed for several hours while repairs were made, police said.

Police conducted a search of the area, using a state police K-9 unit and an aerial drone, but they were initially unable to find the driver.

During their investigation, police learned the vehicle had previously been reported stolen. They were also able to determine the operator had been a 16-year-old juvenile, police said.

Police said they found the teen, who was not injured in the crash.

The juvenile was arrested and is facing the following charges: larceny of a motor vehicle, evading responsibility, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and failure to maintain proper lane.

The teen has been released from custody and is due to appear in Superior Court for Juvenile Matters in Willimantic.
