Driver Dies After Vehicle Plunges Into Water In Barkhamsted: Police

The incident happened around 3:14 p.m. Wednesday, according to Connecticut State Police.

BARKHAMSTED, CT — A driver has died after his vehicle entered the water along Route 219 in Barkhamsted at about 3:14 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Connecticut State Police.

On Thursday morning, police confirmed the operator was pronounced deceased.

“The incident has been classified as an untimely death, with no criminal aspect,” state police said.

Police confirmed the vehicle entered Lake McDonough, which is Metropolitan District property.

Troopers responded and were still at the scene investigating the incident into Wednesday evening.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

The Barkhamsted East Vol. Fire Company #1 said emergency personnel dove into the water to get the driver and then did CPR, but their efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

“At this time it appears the occupant suffered some type of medical episode as he was removing his boat from the water after a day of fishing,” the fire company said, in a Facebook post.
