Weekend Nor'easter Now Looking Likely For CT, Forecasters Say

Forecasters say it is increasingly likely that a Nor'easter storm is on track to hit the Northeast this weekend.

Forecasters say it is increasingly likely that a Nor'easter storm is on track to hit the Northeast this weekend. Connecticut will likely endure heavy rain and strong winds as a result of the storm, according to forecasters with The Weather Channel and the National Weather Service. The storm may linger into Monday and any hopes of seeing the sun this weekend doesn't look good.

In addition to the rain and strong winds, the East Coast can expect to experience coastal flooding and even some snow in areas, according to a Wednesday update from The Weather Channel.

The Weather Channel is predicting low pressure will be off or near the Southeast coast by Friday, and by Saturday, it will gather "modest strength" and ride up or just off the East Coast. This weekend's storm is not likely to come with snow for most of Connecticut, but some areas in New England and Upstate New York may see accumulation. NBC Connecticut's weather team said it's possible that some far northern portions of the state may see snowflakes Saturday for a brief period before it turns to all rain.

Wind gusts of 45 mph or higher are also possible. The storm is expected to begin to dump rain on Connecticut beginning late Friday.

Nor'easter storms — named for the dominant wind direction along the coast coming from the northeast — are common from fall through early spring. Last March, the Northeast experienced four in a single month, bringing record-setting snowfall.

The National Weather Service says, "High pressure moves offshore on Friday as a low begins to track northward along the U.S. east coast. While the majority of the day will remain dry, rain chances will begin to increase during the evening, with rain becoming likely across the area overnight. Wet and windy conditions will continue into the day on Saturday, with temperatures remaining below normal."
