Winter Weather Advisory Just Issued For Connecticut

The National Weather Service has just issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire state for Wednesday and early Thursday.

Once again a nuisance winter storm is expected to cause some troubles on Connecticut's roads Wednesday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Connecticut as snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain will start falling tomorrow afternoon and through early Thursday.

This storm will not be a snow-maker. Connecticut may see a general one to three inches of accumulation from snow and ice. The biggest concern is the timing as the wintry precipitation is expected for Wednesday's evening commute home from work. Dry weather is expected Thursday and temps will skyrocket to 50 degrees.

Southern Connecticut: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. "Total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze expected... Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute."


Hartford CT-Tolland CT-Windham CT: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday. "Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch expected... Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute."

Litchfield County: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday. "Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch expected... Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes."


Details from the National Weather Service on the timeline:

"With cold temperatures in place, precipitation will begin as snow, overspreading the region Wednesday afternoon. As temperatures slowly rise Wednesday night, snow will change to wintry mix and eventually all rain before coming to an end Thursday morning.The transition to plain rain will occur first along the coast, then slowly move inland through the overnight hours. Snowfall accumulations prior to the transition of 1 to 3 inches with less than a tenth of an inch of freezing rain possible across the interior.
