Wolcott Police Warn Residents of Jury Duty Scam
Scammers are falsely claiming to be federal agents and demanding $1,000 fines for missed jury duty, according to Wolcott police.
The Wolcott Police Department is warning residents about a new telephone scam in which callers claim you missed jury duty and have to pay a fine.
The scammers are falsely identifying themselves as federal agents, police said.
The callers claim to represent the “Connecticut Federal Court” and say the recipient missed a jury duty assignment.

The scammers then demand a payment of $1,000 as a fine. The victims are directed to a website, which is designed to appear like an official court website, but was actually created by the scammers.
Victims are instructed to pay the fine using various methods, such as Apple accounts, gift cards, or cash.

"This is a scam. Do NOT send money or provide any personal information," police said, in an alert.
If you get a scam call, do not engage with the caller or click on any links they send. Instead, call Wolcott police immediately.
The department is encouraging residents to inform relatives and friends about this scam so they don't become victims.
