• Ansonia football shuts out Woodland as Tymir Taylor runs for 178 yards, 2 touchdowns (ctpost.com) — Ansonia High’s football team bounced back in a big way at Nolan Field, shutting out Woodland 44-0 behind junior running back Tymir Taylor’s 178 rushing yards and two touchdowns. With strong performances from several underclassmen and sharp quarterback play, the Chargers improved to 5-1 and reasserted themselves as contenders in front of their home crowd.

• Collapsing porches made this Derby fire especially difficult (ctpost.com) — A difficult fire on Derby Avenue in Derby drew help from Ansonia firefighters after intense heat, smoke and a steep drop behind the building made access tricky and caused rear porches to collapse. Crews attacked the blaze from below the front entrance using ladder pipes, then overhauled the one- to three-story structure once visible flames were knocked down.
