Academy Students Win Awards at CT Science & Engineering Fair

On Saturday, March 17th, three students from Talcott Mountain Academy (TMA) received awards at the Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair.

On Saturday, March 17th, three students from Talcott Mountain Academy (TMA) received awards at the Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair (CSEF). The following were presented to Emma Ruccio (Grade 8), Julian Kage (Grade 8), Brendan Glastris (Grade 8) and Alexandros Cooke-Politikos (Grade 7) at a ceremony at Quinnipiac University:

  • EMMA RUCCIO, Grade 8 | PROJECT: Got Your Back | AWARDS: 3rd Place Engineering Middle School—UTC Aerospace Systems Engineering Award 2nd Place Biotechnology Eighth Grade—Alexion Biotechnology Awards | Special AwardsHenderson Award; and Robotics and Beyond Award for Excellence in Physics High School and Engineering Design, Middle School
  • JULIAN KAGE, Grade 8 | PROJECT: Development of rapid test for Lyme bacteria in ticks | AWARDS: 3rd Place Biotechnology Eighth Grade—Alexion Biotechnology Awards
  • BRENDAN GLASTRIS, Grade 8 | PROJECT: Acoustic Anomaly Detector AWARDS: 2nd Place Middle School—Barnes Aerospace Applied Technology Awards Middle School Finalist—Computer Science Awards | Special Award: Connecticut Academy of Audiology
  • ALEXANDROS COOKE-POLITIKOS, Grade 7 | PROJECT: Black Holes – The Insatiable Hunger | AWARDS: Special AwardAstronomical Society of Greater Hartford, Junior Project

The Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair is a yearly, statewide science and engineering fair open to all 7th through 12th grade students residing, or enrolled, in Connecticut schools and Fishers Island. More than one hundred schools and regional fairs send students to CSEF.

Talcott Mountain Academy is an independent school for intellectually excited students K-8. Founded in 1983 as a division of the Talcott Mountain Science Center and located in Avon, Conn., the Academy is a unique on-site learning laboratory that nurtures children’s innate abilities from an early age. talcottacademy.org
