AVON, CT — Waterville Road (Route 10) at Avonwood Road is closed after a large tree fell into the roadway and became entangled with active power lines, local officials announced.
Authorities said the closure will remain in effect until further notice while crews work to address the hazardous conditions and clear the area.
Motorists are being directed to follow posted detours and avoid the intersection while utility and public works crews respond.
Officials have not provided an estimated reopening time.
An update will be issued once Waterville Road is reopened to traffic.
Residents and commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes and exercise caution in the area.
The state Department of Transportation said the roadway was closed between Route 44 and Old Farms Road.
The accident was first reported at 7:07 a.m., and it is still unknown when the scene will be cleared and the roadway reopened.
