Hartford HealthCare Has Appointed New CEO at Hartford Hospital

Jeffrey A. Flaks, executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of Hartford Hospital and executive vice president of Hartford HealthCare (HHC), has been appointed the 21st president and CEO of Hartford Hospital, effective August 1. Flaks assumes his new role from Elliot Joseph, who will retain his title of president and CEO of Hartford HealthCare.   This change places a highly-respected and experienced Hartford Hospital executive at the helm of the 157-year-old institution and represents a major milestone in the evolution of Hartford HealthCare as the region’s premier health care delivery network.  “Hartford Hospital and Hartford HealthCare each will benefit from having its own dedicated leader,” Joseph said. “As CEO, Jeff Flaks will provide the strong and steady leadership needed as we enter a new era in health care with federal health care reform. He led a number of initiatives at Hartford Hospital that have resulted in greatly improved facilities and increased patient and staff satisfaction. Hartford Hospital has become known nationally as a medical center that provides excellent patient care with the most innovative technology and in a compassionate way.”Flaks came to Hartford Hospital in 2007 from MidState Medical Center in Meriden where he served as COO from 2004 to 2007.  
Flaks is a graduate of George Washington University with a master’s degree in health services administration and earned his Bachelor of Science at Ithaca College. “I’m honored to lead Hartford Hospital,” Flaks said. .  “I look forward to my continued work with Elliot and the other leaders in the HHC system,” Flaks said. “The health care industry faces challenges and we have great confidence in our ability to meet those challenges head on and continue to provide top-quality, innovative, comprehensive care to our patients.”
