Mental Health Association of Connecticut Welcomes New President and CEO

Following a 4-month national executive search, the Mental Health Association of Connecticut, Inc.(MHAC) is pleased to announce that  Luis B. Perez, LCSW.,  has been selected as the organizations new President and CEO.  Perez, who began his new position on January 2nd, 2013, will continue the group’s mission of empowering the people of Connecticut to lead mentally healthier lives.

 “We are extremely fortunate to have attracted someone with Mr. Perez’s talent, knowledge and leadership regarding mental health awareness and issues in Connecticut,” said MHAC Board Chairman, Edwin Norse, who led the national search committee. “This is a critical time for the mental health arena in our state. His values and experiences will guide us in continuing to grow our organization which is focused on serving those with mental illness.”

“I am honored to serve as President and CEO of MHAC,” said Luis Perez. “For over 100 years, MHAC has had a rich tradition of excellence and innovation in the provision and advocacy of behavioral health services.  I look forward to working for such a great organization and building upon the great work of those before me.”

Perez has been a leader in Connecticut’s mental health arena for over 26 years.  He comes to MHAC most recently from FSW, Inc., (formerly Family Services Woodfield) of Bridgeport where he served as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to FSW, Perez was COO at The Village for Children and Families, and before that assignment was CEO at Connecticut Valley Hospital. He has also held leadership roles with Capital Region Mental Health Center, The Institute of Living, and Catholic Family Services. Perez has served on numerous boards and committees including the Hartford Federal Credit Union, Hartford Economic Development Corporation and the City of Hartford Commission on the Homeless.  Perez is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, and received his MSW at the University of Connecticut. He currently resides in Avon.
