AOF Alumnus Helps Loyola Lacrosse Win National Championship

Jack Runkel is a goaltender for the Greyhounds.

A former varsity lacrosse player's goaltending helped his college team win a national championship last Monday.

Fairfield native Jack Runkel, who plays for the Loyola University of Maryland Greyhounds, made six saves in the final and held the rival University of Maryland Terps scoreless for the last 40 minutes of play, according to a press release from Fairfield Country Day School, where Runkel went to school until 2007 before attending Avon Old Farms. Loyola won 9-3.

The game was at Foxborough, MA and 30,000 attended, the press release stated. His parents, Richard Runkel, Fairfield Country Day director of admissions, and Kaelyn Runkel, summer fun director, came to see watch him play.
