Avon Arts Groups Receive State Grants

Avon arts groups received state funding as state Sen. Paul Honig announced $35K in grants across the 8th District.

AVON, Conn. — Two Avon-based arts organizations are among five groups in the 8th Senate District receiving a combined $35,000 in state funding, according to an announcement from state Sen. Paul Honig, D-Harwinton.

The grants come from the Connecticut Arts Endowment Fund and are intended to support general operations, including programming, administrative expenses, capital projects, and equipment.

Avon recipients include the Fermata Arts Foundation, awarded $953, and the New England Ballet Theatre of Connecticut, which received $580.

The largest share of funding went to the Northwest CT Association for the Arts, which operates the Warner Theatre in Torrington, receiving $30,932. Additional grants were awarded to the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts ($1,632) and the Northwest CT Arts Council ($966), both also based in Torrington.

Honig, a Democrat representing Avon and surrounding towns, said the funding recognizes the broader community role of arts organizations.

“Arts organizations do something that's hard to put a dollar figure on,” Honig said. “They give people a reason to gather, a way to make sense of things, and something to be proud of in their community.”

The Connecticut Arts Endowment Fund, established by the state legislature, calculates grant amounts based on private donations raised by each organization, with the goal of encouraging long-term financial stability in the arts sector.

The funds are available for immediate use at the discretion of each organization.
