Bear Breaks Into Avon Home: Report

The siege pitting the frightening furry, sharp-clawed mammals against Avon homeowners continues this week, according to reports.

AVON, CT — The swarm of mammals laying siege to Avon appear to definitely be smarter than your average bears.

Last month, an elderly Avon woman was attacked and bitten by a bear while walking her dog in her neighborhood.

This prompted the Town of Avon to issue a full-out bear warning to folks, urging them to be cautious and to report bear sightings to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The town, even, said to get bear horns.

But it doesn't appear to be working, according to a WTNH Channel 8 report this week.

The television station reports rural Avon homeowners are having bear encounters constantly, with two, in recent days, even going so far as to helping themselves to some food.

Oh, and the food was in a resident's kitchen. They actually broke into the house and went inside, according to WTNH.

Even worse, according to WTNH, just shouting at them doesn't work any more. The bears appear to have grown thick skins ... make that ... fur.

While Avon seems to be ground zero for Connecticut's "Ursus Abstrusus" invasion, it's hardly alone.

State officials have reiterated repeatedly to many communities this spring that this is the time of the year for increased bear activity and interactions with humans.

So, if you live in Avon, or any town with, say, woods ... put away the bird seed, lock your garage doors and make sure the remnants of your picnic are cleaned up.

You never know who is watching — or smelling.
