Avon FD To Remember Sept. 11 Attacks Monday
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a remembrance ceremony to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

AVON, CT — The Avon Volunteer Fire Department Monday will host a poignant ceremony to remember one of the most tragic days in American history.
The AVFD is inviting members of the public to its annual 9/11 Memorial Service at the Avon Town Green.
On Sept. 11, 2001, four airliners were hijacked by terrorists, with two crashing into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, one crashing into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a third crashing in Pennsylvania en route to the U.S. Capitol.

The attacks killed 3,000, including several hundred police and firefighters.
"It has been 22 years since that fateful day. We will convene to remember, reflect and recommit ourselves," wrote the AVFD.

The remembrance is at 7:45 a.m. at the green, which is located at 56 W. Main St.
In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Avon Volunteer Fire Department headquarters at 25 Darling Drive, Avon.
