Avon High School To Present Urinetown the Musical

Press Release for Avon High School Spring Musical, Urinetown

This three-time Tony Award winning musical will be presented by the Avon High School theatre department on April 8th and 9th at 7:30pm and April 10th at 2pm. Imagine a time in the not-so-distant future when a severe drought has led to an oppressive government deciding to charge a hefty tax to its citizens, for the privilege of using the bathroom, in order to control water usage. That’s what Urinetown supposes and gets you to consider to be within the realm of possibility in the future. Now imagine a play with catchy music that uses satire to highlight human rights concerns, capitalism, the legal system, and politics. This creative musical not only poses questions about topics all humans need to consider, but it also entertains and gets audience members to tap their feet.

This show features a cast of nearly 30 AHS students and a pit orchestra made up of some of the best musicians in the school. Complete with student-created lighting designs, student-led sound engineering, and student-constructed sets, the AHS Theatre Department is eager to have you in the audience to see this innovative show with characters on New York Theatre Monthly’s list of “The 100 Greatest Roles in Musical Theatre.”

Advanced sales tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens and can be ordered by mailing a form found at avonhstheatre.org. At the door, tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Questions can be forwarded to avonhstheatre@gmail.com or (860) 404-4745.
