Avon Historical Society Seeks Volunteers for History Book Project

The Society is bringing the 1988 Mary-Frances MacKie book, "Avon Connecticut: an historical story" into the modern age.

AVON, CT - The Avon Historical Society is seeking volunteers for a project of historical significance to the town.

The Society is bringing the 1988 Mary-Frances MacKie book, “Avon Connecticut: an historical story” into the modern age. It is considered by many to be the most comprehensive history of the town for its rich detail.

A few hard copies of the original 323-page book are still available through the Avon Historical Society website: www.avonhistoricalsociety.org. The Avon Free Public Library has several copies for loan also.

The goal of this project is to make the book available through online booksellers and even turn it into an eBook. Along the way, volunteers are needed to research the photographs and illustrations in the book. They will assist in making decisions about editing and updating and need to do research in the Avon and state archives.

This opportunity will allow volunteers to learn a lot about self-publishing, eBooks and our shared history. It is anticipated this project may take 6-8 months in duration.
