Avon Horse Guard Barn Getting New Roof

The current roof has many leaks. The Avon Historical Society raised the majority of the money for the project.

The Avon First Company Governor’s Horse Guard barn is in the process of getting a new sorely-needed roof.

The barn houses the horse guard, which falls under the Connecticut National Guard. A partial funding cut could threaten the unit’s feature.

The existing roof has many leaks, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Avon Historical Society leases the building and raised $20,000 for the new roof. A $5,000 grant from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation also helped fund the new roof.
