Avon Lawmaker Honored For Senior Citizen Stands

The state senator serves the 8th Senate District, including Avon, Canton, Granby and Simsbury, among other towns.

AVON, CT — A Republican lawmaker from Avon was honored this week for her work on issues related to senior citizens in the state.

State Sen. Lisa Seminara, R-Avon, who is a ranking member of the legislature's Aging Committee, was honored on Thursday by the Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home.

She was named the 2024 "Legislator of the Year" by the organization.

Seminara serves the 8th Senate District towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury and Torrington.

The Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home is an organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging the benefits of home health care for seniors.

According to Seminara's office, she helped pass bipartisan legislation to protect seniors from scams and abuse.

"She also has been a strong advocate for policies that improve elderly services and home care services which enable seniors to remain in their homes while receiving quality care," read a news release on the award.

“Providing better care for our seniors continues to be my focus, and I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” said Seminara in a statement.
