Avon Surges to Beat Granby in 11-12 Little League District 6 Playoffs
Granby was up 4-0, but Avon closed the game 10-6.
Granby may have led early in the Little League District 6 tournament for the 11-12 age group, but Avon was able to come back after a tough battle with a strong Granby lineup.
"Granby jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first," Avon team manager Mark Olson wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "Avon responded with one run and then exploded in the second inning with five runs to take a 6-4 lead."
Avon held on to the lead, responding "each time Granby scored," he wrote.

"[The] final score was 10-6 but [it] ended with Granby failing to capitalize on a bases loaded situation," Olson wrote.
But that does not mean the end of play for Granby, as the tournament is double elimination.

"Granby now drops to the loser's bracket and faces a hot Torrington American team tomorrow night," Olson said.
Torrington American defeated Simsbury American Tuesday, knocking the squad out because Avon beat Simsbury on Monday.
In fact, Granby may have the opportunity to play Avon again because the winner of the match-up faces Avon in Harwinton on Thursday night at 5:30 pm.
"Avon was once again very well represented and the players appreciate the support shown by the fans," Olson wrote.
