
Ralph A. Epstein, MD, of Avon, beloved husband of Mary Anne (Farrell) Epstein, died February 7, 2016.
Born in New York City to the late Sidney and Sophie (Browdy) Epstein, Dr. Epstein received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College and his MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed his training in Anesthesiology at the Columbia University Medical Center and served for two years at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, before returning to Columbia University’s Department of Anesthesiology as a professor. In 1981, Dr. Epstein was appointed Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Connecticut Medical Center in Farmington, where he served until his retirement. He and his wife, Mary Anne, were avid members of the Connecticut Dahlia Society.
Along with Mary Anne, he leaves his sister, Joan Sher, and her husband Allen, of New York; a niece, Susanne Arbitman; two nephews, Marshall and Ivan Arbitman, and Ivan’s wife, Lydia; two grand nieces, Leah Calderin and Mila Arbitman, and grandnephew Leo Arbitman.
