
Elizabeth "Bette" (Daley) Nelligan, 87, of Canton and formerly of Avon, beloved wife of the late Robert J. Nelligan, passed away, Tuesday, July 27, 2016.
Born in New Britain, daughter of the late John and Esther (Bailey) Daley, she was raised there and received her undergraduate degrees from Central Connecticut State Teachers College and her Masters and 6th Year Certificate from St. Joseph's College. She taught 4th Grade at the Canton Intermediate School for 25 years before retiring.
Bette lived in Avon for over 40 years moving to Canton in 2009. She was an avid UConn Women's Basketball fan and a member of the Avon Seniors. She was also a longtime volunteer for the FVVNA, helping with programs for children and seniors.

She leaves her son Robert J. Nelligan, Jr. and his partner Wendy Hibbard of Canton; a brother William Daley (Leona) of Southington; a sister Katherine Ulan of Longmeadow, MA; a sister-in-law Katherine Picard of Winsted; and a nephew Brian Picard of Simsbury. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Maureen E. Nelligan, a brother John Daley, and a sister Marion Streaman.
Her family will receive friends Friday, July 29, 2016 from 9-10:30 am at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
