Avon Obituary: George Krepps, 100

Condolences to his family and friends.

George A Krepps, 100, passed away Sunday morning, January 24, 2016 with his three daughters at his side, at River Ridge at Avon Assisted Living Facility, his home for the past year.

George was born July 28, 1915 in Muskegon Heights, MI, to Frances and William Krepps. He graduated from Olivet College in Olivet, MI. It was there he met Toni, his future wife of 68 years, majored in history, played football, and made friends he kept for life.

George taught history and coached at Olivet (High) School for two years. After a summer job with GM, he chose to leave teaching and made his career with General Motors until retiring in 1983. George worked in manufacturing and quality control leadership positions for GM divisions AC Spark Plug, New Departure and New Departure-Hyatt in Flint, MI; Milwaukee, WI; Bristol and Meriden, CT; Sandusky, OH; and Clark and Harrison, NJ. During WWII, projects included British-American bombsight and machine gun projects.

Before moving to Avon, George and Toni lived in Flint, MI; Whitefish Bay, WI; New Britain, CT; and Huron, OH. They then lived in Avon for thirty-eight years. George served on Avon’s Inland-Wetlands Committee, and supported Avon High School’s Marching Band fundraising efforts. Supporting his family and his daughters’ friends and activities found him in local parade crowds, the football bleachers, theatrical audiences, and swim-meet cheering sections. George and his wife were active members of First Lutheran Church in New Britain.

In 2001, they moved to Homosassa, Florida after being snow-birds for many years. After his wife passed away, he continued living alone in their home until he was 98, when he moved to Sunflower Springs Assisted Living Community. He returned to Avon in November 2014. In Florida, he and his wife were members of St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
