Avon Obituary: Joyce Lucas, 82

Condolences to her family and friends.

Joyce (Phillips) Lucas, 82, of Avon, wife of the late Alexander Lucas, died Monday, July 25, 2016.

She was born October 13, 1933 in Bedlinog, Wales, daughter of the late David Thomas and Sarah (Clevey) Phillips. As a child, her family moved from Wales to London to find a life outside the coal mines of Wales. During WWII, she was evacuated back to Wales, but returned to London after the war to be with her family. In London, she pursued a career in nursing which led to a trip on the Queen Mary to accept a governess role in New York.

In New York, she met the love of her life, Alex, at a local cricket club. Alex and Joy settled in Northport, Long Island and started a family. In the late 70’s, the family moved to Avon, Connecticut.
